Maureen O'Hara Biography

Maureen O'Hara was a renowned American actress and singer who was of Irish descent. The green-eyed beauty sporting flaming red locks was well-known by her passionate and fiery roles in several American films. Her gorgeous appearance and natural beauty was well-loved. She was referred to in Hollywood as the "Queen of Technicolor". Her characters onscreen reflected her strong, brave spirit that fought for respect and survival in the male-dominated world. She was referred to as the "tough Irish girl" and refused to compromise her standing or her respect for the roles she was able to get through merit. She stood up to injustices and unfair treatment of women actors during her film career and earned a lot if admirers. Her autobiography, "Tis herself", was published in 2004 and provided an unflinching review of her life , including the struggles she faced as she climbed the ladder to success. She was an adventurous person who was not afraid to perform her own stunts. Over the years she was in more than 60 films, and gained a lot of popularity throughout the world. She remarried in 1968 with Charles F. Blair Jr., a former pilot chief and brigadier who were the pioneers of transatlantic aviation. O'Hara eventually retired after few years of marriage. Blair was tragically killed in an airplane crash in 1978, bringing an end to O'Hara's joy. In the same year she was also diagnosed as being a victim of uterine cancer, and was required to undergo immediate surgery. She was capable of recovering. The following years her health declined and she experienced six heart attacks, memory loss in the short term as well as diabetes mellitus type 2. O'Hara, who was 95, passed away peacefully in Boise on October 24, 2015.
