Anne Burrell

Anne W. Burrell was TV personality and former chef of the Institute of Culinary Education and she was formerly an instructor of cooking. She hosts the Food Network's Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, and is also the co-host of Worst Cooks in America. Her signature spiky blonde hair and her pumped-up appearance, Anne Burrell eliminates the intimidation of eating out and offers straightforward, simple techniques to master for home cooks on her Food Network show Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. Chef Burrell has worked for a time in New York at top restaurants and studied the Italian culinary traditions and geography. Additionally, she competed as Iron Chef America on Food Network. As a child in Upstate New York Chef Burrell was attracted by the food. The Culinary Institute of America was the catalyst for her passion for the management of restaurants after she graduated with an English/Communications degree at Canisius College Buffalo NY. The Culinary Institute of America was where I had the most enjoyable time of my life. It was difficult to master, do or work enough. Following graduation, Burrell spent one year learning in the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners and working in the Umbrian restaurant La Taverna del Lupo as and Tuscany's La Bottega del 30, a Michelin-starred restaurant. She gained a deeper understanding of Italian culinary and cultural traditions throughout her time in Italy and this has affected her cooking style. Burrell participates on the Garden of Dreams Foundation Advisory Board that brightens up the lives of children who are struggling. Burrell is also a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation celebrity advocate, where she promotes awareness of young diabetics. She speaks about her cooking passion, and also shares her experiences in the food world, as she regularly is in the United States for both her roles as mentors and speakers. Anne says she was incredibly fortunate in that she could share her true passion with others.
